First Day of Kindergarten
School Haircut
School Clothes and Fashion Show
Laying out her clothes for the first day (didn't you used to do this?)
Now that it's here we are not so sure about it...
Name tags from her new teacher Miss Karen
Meeting some new friends
Headed in. No tears and no looking back.
I did however peek in!
First day over. Feeling a little better about it now.
What an emotional rollercoaster kindergarten has been. Super excited about it all summer long and then when it was finally here we all had second thoughts about it. A week before school started Lily was accepted into the school that we really wanted her to go to. It is a public school but you have to be accepted on a lottery system to get to go there. It is a really good school and only about 3 minutes away from our house. We were so happy when we finally got the phone call saying she was in after being #13 on the waiting list for 7 months.
We were beyond proud of Lily on the first day of school for marching right in like a little soldier with a brave face and no tears. She has gotten so big and so brave and grown up in the last few months. She tries new things that we would have never thought she would do. The everyday routine has taken some time getting used to. A lot of overwhelmed car rides home and feeling like she was missing out on everything we were doing without her (which isn't much!) And Rosy walked around the house aimlessly without Lily for days. A few weeks into school she was starting to actually like going and anticipating it instead of just going because she knew she had to. Now she can't wait to go and knows all her classmates and the schedule and proudly wears her orange and blue on spirit day. Parent participation is mandatory at the school and I work in the classroom every Thursday and Erick has already been a chaperone on two field trips. It is a lot and I feel like there is something going on every week but I feel so lucky that I get to be a part of this new and really big thing in her life. And Rosy is gladly welcomed to Music Charlie and all the celebrations and I have taken her and Beau on most of the field trips too.
Oh and I can't say enough nice things about her teacher. I prayed and prayed all summer long (well all year really) that Lily would get into this school. Then I called and called the District Office to see what number she was on the waiting list until they told me to stop calling. Then I tried to get used to the idea of her going to the neighborhood school, which I'm sure would have been fine too. That's when I realized that I had done all that I could do and it was time to turn it all over to the Lord. I began praying that He would put her in the best place for her and that she would succeed and love school and be brave. And that her teacher would be kind to her and get to know her and understand her needs. And then we got the phone call saying that she was in and I thanked Heavenly Father for answering our prayers. But then we found out she was in the afternoon class when the 5 kids from our ward are all in the morning class and I couldn't figure out why that happened. When Lily started saying she was so happy to not have to go to school early so she could stay at home and spend time with Rosy I understood why she was in the afternoon class. And when I met her teacher I realized that she is the best match for Lily and I understood that part of the blessing too. Wow. Did I mention this is Kindergarten? Feels like college. Oh let's not think about that. We will have to move to Rexburg by then.

So sweet that she likes having extra time with Rosy. Glad Kindergarten is going well, I'm not looking forward to that transition in 4 years!
